Robert Finn will be presenting "Hanslick Revisited ," and assessing the position of Eduard Hanslick in the War of the Romantics controversy. A schism between those(Hanslick and disciples) who saw musical history beginning with Mozart and culminating in the works of Beethoven, Schumann and Brahms and those (Pohl and followers) who espoused the progressive composers and musicians of the future especially Liszt and Wagner .

Robert Finn has been a music critic for the Cleveland Plain Dealer from 1964-1992. A graduate of Boston University, he is a four time winner of the ASCAP-Deems Taylor award for newspaper writing about music. He was President of the Music Critics Association of North America from 1985-1989. Presently he is a free lance writer and has written two books on music since retirement. He is a pre-opera and pre-concert lecturer and now teaches in the adult education department of CWRU. |
